I have been reading CP Smith since she released her first book, A Reason To Breathe, and I have to say, she just keeps on getting better and better.
Nicola's lives her love life vicariously through the romance books she writes - sexy Scotsmen anyone?? - but is seriously lacking in the real thing.
Until she runs - and I mean literally runs - into sexy policeman Dallas Vaughn. Boy oh boy, the things I would do with that man *wink wink*
When Nicola and her friends unwittingly put themselves in the sights of a serial killer, Dallas' protective instincts kick in, an out comes the alpha!
I love how Ms Smith's women are strong willed and fight against the alphas - well, when it comes to be protected anyway. There really is no fighting them when the want to get you into bed - and only a simpleton would want to fight that ツ
There is none of the "why does he like me? He's too good for me" nonsense with a CP Smith lady! I can't be the only one sick of the whimpering, simpering, woe is me girls we get in so many of our books these days?
I completely and utterly adore Nicola's group of friends. Friends since school, they know the best and worst about each other, and love each other unconditionally. Everyone needs a group of friends like them. The banter, the innuendo, the laughter and tears amongst them - everything a girl wants and needs.
I enjoyed the way that our leading lady Nicola, being a historical romance writer, sometimes drops herself into a scene in her mind with dashing Dallas as the knight in shining armour with herself as the damsel.
There are some hints and clues to who the dastardly killer may be, but this was not revealed until Ms Smith wanted us to know. Not a minute before.
There is also an event that takes place in the story, that even though I knew it was going to happen, it completely knocked me for six when it happened, causing more than a few tears to be shed.
Can Nicola and Dallas thwart the killers plans, as well as get their HEA?
Nope, for that you are going to have to read for yourself!
There are a few characters in this book that I sure do hope get a story of there own. There is just so much more that these men need to tell us!
If you like a book with smartmouthed, strong women and the possessive alpha men that want them, then you need to give Property Of, and in fact all of Ms Smith's books a read.
